Microsoft enacts new Gamerscore Policy

Microsoft has apparently told developers “Look, here is how it’s going to be…” with the gamer scores. To save everyone time, I’ll just give you the information that matters:
1.) Every retail game will have 1,000 Achievement Points available for unlocking at the offset when you buy a game. Now, developers can still add on more points via downloads, but every game will have 1,000 points from the get-go.
2.) Publishers will still have the option of adding 250 MORE points on top of the 1,000 that will now be standard via add-ons. They can either be free, or you may have to dish out cash for the added points. Either way, you will probably see your total achievement score jump from 1K, to 1250 points.
3.) All Xbox Live Arcade games will now have a default score of 200 gamer points, with an additional 50 points from add-on content. If you’re like me, and only use XBLA to buy old school arcade games, this really is a non-issue.
Now you may be thinking to yourself “…I thought that was already the case.” Well, so did I. But, when you play certain games like, say, The Godfather, you notice why Microsoft went and made this the official policy. The Godfather, again, only has 865 points to be had.
When this takes effect, I have no idea. Probably immediately. Either way, the more achievement points the better, I say.
