Mill o’ Rumour: Black Xbox 360 Rumor NOT DYING!
(NOTE: You’d think I’d have a “Mill o’ Rumour” banner by now, wouldn’t ya?)
Ok, a while back I talked briefly about a rumor going around that there was going to be a black Xbox 360. Regardless, the German site Xbox-Archiv, who is usually pretty good with rumors (when you can get the damn page translated into English), is reporting two pretty major things:
1.) Current production on the Core 360 unit is slated to halt “soon.”
2.) The current Premium system will become the next Core 360, with the black 360 becoming the new premium, most likely to compete with the European PS3 launch. If the rumor is true, the new 360 2.0 (too many numbers) should be released around 05/07 (gratuitous use of numbers).
See, this is why you people love me — every other site has about twelve paragraphs trying to explain it, and it took me two sentences. This is mostly because I’m tired and want to make this quick. Regardless, this rumor was re-sparked by the sudden price drop of core systems in Europe to 299 Euro (although the rumor also states that this will be the new price for the current premium console once the core is cancelled… still with me?), which actually plays into my own theory about what’s going on here.
To keep it brief (again, because I’m tired), I think this is what’s going to happen. The PS3 is coming out the end of March in Europe, which is all fine and dandy. Microsoft, currently being the top dogs, will want to smash the PS3 before it really can get any steam built. A price drop would be the ideal way to do that — after all, with a price drop, you could buy TWO 360s for the price of one PS3.

I’m praying this isn’t true, simply because I’ve only had my xbox for a couple of months!
