t3h w31rd: August 12th, 2007

It’s that time once again, ladoes and gents. The weekly recap of the strange and odd known only as “t3h w31rd”. This week we’ve got everything from poor Chinese knock-offs of the PlayStation, to a man who’s figured out how to play Halo 2 on his Xbox 360 using a Wiimote and Nunchuk (and black magic), to another resourceful modder who’s created a Universal Remote out of an old Atari 2600 controller. Follow that up with the sexiest Stormtrooper you’ve ever seen, and to cap it all off… the worst… video game movie… ever.
Ever.
There is something horribly wrong with that picture, isn’t there? Well, this has been going on for a long, long time. That right there is a cheap Playstation knock-off (duh?) sold in China called, as you can see, the “PolyStation”. As you can see it’s designed almost exactly like a Playstation that you would find in America, Canada, Japan, the UK, or even South Africa. Let’s see what the Polystation offers us:
1.) THE MACHINE
Experience unsurpassed 64-bit graphics and CD quality sound running at an amazing [?]Mhz2.) THE CONTROLLER
Reach new levels of accuracy and play control with the ergonomically designed controller featuring 14-buttons and analog control stick3.) THE GAMES
Graphics put you in real-time 3D environments. Get ready for speed and excitement inan endless array of perspectives4.) PLUG AND PLAY
Stereo AV Cables are included for the highest quality picture & stereo sound plus you can have your Funstation connected to your TV simultaneously
…it’s never good when they get the name of the machine wrong on the machine’s own damn box, but I digress. Either way, let’s pop this thing open and put in a copy of Riiiiiidge Racer!

…what the fuck? This isn’t… wow…
In all seriousness, however, this isn’t the only console to do this. After all, the PolyStation alone spawned two follow-ups in the PolyStation 2 (which looks like a Dreamcast with N64 controllers) and the PolyStation 2 Mini (which looks like a PS2).
But this is a Xbox blog, so it really wouldn’t be right if we didn’t show you a Xbox knock-off. So, I present to you all the “Dino Star”.

…wow. Other consoles “emulated” include the Game Boy Advance, Nintendo Entertainment System, and the SEGA Genesis.
LEGO Guitar Hero?
No, no. Guitar Hero isn’t the latest game to get the LEGO treatment from those kids-at-heart over at Traveller’s Tales. But some enterprising lad had constructed a Guitar Hero guitar out of LEGOs, and yes kids… it really works.
Unfortunately the creator of this rather ingenious piece of technology disassembled them before he got the idea of making a YouTube video showing it off.
Video: Playing Halo 2 (Xbox 360) with a Wiimote
…I don’t even have the words, but it leads me into this next one…
Atari 2600 Controller + Remote Controller + Super-Villiany = Atari 2600 Remote
Stormtrooper Sex!
This was going to be the winner right up until Saturday night. This video, taken from the HBO Original Series “Cathouse” is every nerd’s fantasy come true.
But our winner, I am sad to say… is this: The Controller
So thank you and congratulations to writer/director/producer Frank Michels. You’ve set gaming back twenty years!
See y’all next week!
