Wil Wheaton’s PAX Keynote Address - A Must Listen!

If you were not one of the lucky ones who got to go to PAX (like us), you missed out on one of the greatest keynote addresses I’ve ever heard. An hour long ode to gaming and the gamer lifestyle, delivered by none other than Wil Wheaton.
CLICK THIS LINK to listen to the keynote address Wheaton gave at PAX, which opened with the line you see in the image. He reminisces about retro gaming in the arcades (including a fascinating rememberance of Wizard of War), which makes me wish I was able to have grown up in that age.
He goes on to talk about home gaming, and how he played his Atari 2600 to death before finally moving on to D&D, and his eventual discovery (and obsession) of the Nintendo Entertainment System. He talks about his love for the Nintendo Wii, and how it brings about a social experience not felt since the Atari and NES.
Finally, Wheaton stands up for gaming, telling us what we already knew — gaming is a social activity, and how he and his kids now game together.
As a Trekkie, as a nerd, as a sci-fi fan, as a gamer, as a writer, and as a geek… I idolize Wil Wheaton. Not because of his fame, or his career — but because of who he is and what he stands for. He is truly one of the coolest men alive.

I was in Seattle just a couple of weeks prior to PAX. I was sooo bummed that I couldn’t stay for it. I was lucky enough to get a signed copy of Will’s book at the Linux con here in Austin a couple of years ago, though.
