Microsoft hints at possible Blu-Ray player

An epic battle rages, where only one side will be left victorious. Sony, still feeling the sting of getting their Betamax-ass kicked by the VHS some 25 years ago is currently riding high on their Blu-Ray DVD technology. This (naturally) poses an issue for Microsoft, who put their support behind the HD-DVD.
In an interview with the BBC, Xbox UK Chief Neil Thompson pledged that Microsoft would support whichever format won this epic battle, saying “Whatever format wins it is highly likely we will offer a solution.” Now, this isn’t the first time Microsoft has hinted towards supporting Blu-Ray. Peter Moore himself stated that Microsoft is willing to create a Blu-Ray player should the format win out.
It seems these hints of Microsoft supporting Blu-Ray is a sort of notice for the HD-DVD manufacturers, saying that if they don’t get a fire lit under their asses that Microsoft is gone. While I, myself, prefer HD-DVD, I can see the benefits from Blu-Ray discs. The increased storage makes for some intriguing possibilities.
