Wiggle Your Stick for 2K Sports NHL 2K8

2K Sports has announced a new feature that will be good enough it will become a standard setting for the NHL 2K series. The “precision puck handling” will be taken care of thanks to the right thumb stick that will work with the face-off system. They are really happy about this new technology, as they sent us a full press release about the feature. Though I am not supporting 2K Sports (click here why you shouldn’t either), this does seem like a good move for the company and this franchise to change things up and to keep moving forward, and by the description, I am surprised they had not thought of this before. Check the press release for some more detailed info straight from 2K:

2K Sports Introduces New Gameplay Features for NHL® 2K8

New York, NY - July 31, 2007 - 2K Sports, the sports publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), today announced new standard setting features for NHL® 2K8, the latest edition of the top rated NHL video game series*. The new ProStick™ gives players precision puck handling movements and all new controls intuitively mapped to the right thumb stick while the groundbreaking face-off system brings an unmatched level of depth and strategy with every drop of the puck.

“The ProStick and face-off system work hand-in-hand to bring a new level of control to hockey video games,” said Graeme Bayless, President of Kush Games, a 2K Sports studio. “With these two features, we feel NHL 2K8 offers a fresh gameplay experience that will appeal to gamers new to the series as well as our loyal fans.”

Fans of realistic hockey action will be truly engrossed with the level of control introduced by the ProStick. Stick movement and commands are tied directly to the right analog stick, giving gamers authentic control and puck handling ability. Hundreds of new animations give users a full range of movement, creating a genuine NHL gameplay experience on both offense and defense.

The NHL 2K series has always set the standard in realistic hockey simulation, and with an all new face-off system, NHL 2K8 brings a never-before-seen depth to one of the most important aspects of the game. Working with 2005-2006 NHL MVP and NHL 2K7 cover athlete Joe Thornton, the development team gained unique and valuable insight into the key aspects and subtleties of real NHL face-offs. Based on timing and strategy and featuring warnings, toss-outs, and tie-ups, this innovative approach to face-offs provides gamers with unrivaled detail and realism.

NHL 2K8 will be available in September 2007 for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and the PLAYSTATION®3 and PlayStation®2 computer entertainment systems.

First off, thank you for the heads up on the Circuit City $20 off deal, I ended up getting $30 off ($35 for a 13 month card and $35 for a 4000 point card) because the cashier had to do it all by hand after the discount was only $10, looks like she took an additional $20 off!

Anyway, I know people FEEL Like they are getting ripped off paying for something that is already on a DVD but there are two reasons I am NOT that upset over it. For one, the 2K sports games always come in on the cheap side. I think my NBA2K7 game was $39.00, a good $20 cheaper than the NBA live series and a lot better. Also, in the PC software world, this practice happens all the time. I know with Symantec Backup Exec, it comes with thousands of dollars with off applications on the cd, you just can’t use them till you pay to unlock them. All software is sold to users with a license, in the past it was the case that the license covers everything on the media, cd, cart etc. Now they are letting users customize what they want from the game, and as long as the price stays low like it has for the 2K* series of games, I see no reason to be upset. Another side perk is you don’t have to waste HD space for the unlocked items as they are already on the disc.
