61% Xbox 360 Failure Rate?

I am usually not one who will post studies, but every once in a while there comes one that just demands my attention. In this case, I have to tell you all.

So a website, who shall remain nameless (yet I link? Odd), held it’s own survey regarding the manufacturing quality of the Xbox 360. Out of some 3700+ responses, 61% of them said that they had gone through at least one Xbox 360.

Now it is without saying that this is skewed. After all, most of the people who respond to these bogus surveys are negative because theirs died. But while the number may be inflated, there is no question that Microsoft has a problem with the reliability of the Xbox 360. And by reading comments like this one below, I’m not alone:

This system is poorly manufactured and should have never passed QC. The only reason it passed QC was because MS wanted to launch first so they could make a profit… at the disregard of the consumer… Shame on you, MS. I will now switch my gaming loyalties to Sony.

Microsoft better start making better consoles if they want to survive for the long haul. The backlash is starting to grow, and this could… theoretically… snowball’s chance in hell… push sales on the PS3 up.

I don’t trust that poll for a second.

  2. Paul Says:

I don’t either Paco. That study is beyond unscientific. If the number was actually 60 percent, it would be all over the main stream media because you can’t hide a failure rate that high.

  3. J.W. Says:

I’m not saying the survey is the story — but it does highlight (to a point) a serious problem with the Xbox 360’s production quality.

  4. Magdalena Says:

I bought my 260 at the release since than I have had to send it in for a new one 3 times becourse of all the problems. I am pretty sure they hiode the probs well…

You know. I have been posting on the official Xbox forums for a little while now, and even CheapAssGamer’s forums (where they hate me), but still, they have threads for “Coffin” support groups (Coffin = The box Microsoft sends you to send them your dead 360 to fix). I can’t grasp a 61% failure rate and them being able to cover it up that much, however, I think I am hitting denial with thinking that it is more than likely under 10%.
