Etch-a-Sketchist: Gears of War and lolcat!

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

gears-of-war.jpg

Remember a couple of weeks ago, how we featured the Etch-a-Sketchist in our weekly “t3h w31rd” segment? Well, now I think we’re going to keep tabs on this man. As you can see above, the world’s greatest etch-a-sketch artist has rendered a lovely image inspired by Gears of War, the uber-popular Xbox 360 (and soon PC) title. And if you will look below…

lolcat.jpg

…lolcat. That’s all there is to be said. Lolcat.

Keep in mind that you’ll usually be able to find all of the Etch-a-Sketchist’s nerd-friendly creations in our weekly “t3h w31rd” segment (because I’m a fan), but because there will be no w31rd this week (replaced by a recap and review of the Detroit Video Games Live event), I figured I’d throw it in here.

I have had the most amazing week on the planet Earth. I’ve fallen in love with a beautiful and understanding woman, I get to tend to you fine people day in and day out, and, by the way, I got the hook-up for the Detroit Video Games Live event this past Friday, where I hung out with Tommy Tallarico, Jack Hall, Martin Leung and the whole VGL crew. When you’re the immortal “MaximusPaynicus”, you get a few treats every now and then. By the way, you can expect my official recap and review in the next few days, and in the coming weeks I’ll actually be sitting down with Tommy Tallarico for a one-on-one interview.

But enough gloating for now — let’s get to t3h w31rd!

First of all, I want to wish you all a happy 4th of July. I hope you are all safe when you’re celebrating our great nation’s birth by blowing small chunks of it up. I know that’s what I’ll do. Either way, here’s t3h w31rd!

Before we jump in to t3h w31rd this week, I feel the need to vent on a personal level for only a minute. You see, if you had somehow been associated with me, Jim (not J.W.), you would probably be under the impression that I am a bisexual pedophile who is trying to sleep with my former friend’s younger sister. Yeah. It’s been one of those kind of weeks. I don’t think I have to tell you people that none of that is true.

So, I’m a bit grumpy. And tired. And out of smokes, which makes me both grumpy and tired. It’s a vicious cycle. Either way, here’s t3h w31rd.

Ladies and gents, your weekly reminder that the gaming industry is FUBAR has returned. And boy do we have a segment lined up for you all! Ladies and gents, this is “t3h w31rd”.

The past couple of weeks have been pretty trying here at “t3h w31rd”. Not too much weird shiite has gone down that has warranted writing up this weekly peek inside the seedy, absurd gaming underbelly. BUT… I have found a few things, and I think we can make this work. SO, without further adieu, I present to you all… t3h w31rd.

The Dead Xbox Memorial

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

red-ring.jpg

This was supposed to be part fo ‘t3h w31rd’, but this was really the only odd thing I could find this week. But it’s a dandy.

Odds are, a third of you readers are on your second or third 360. It’s no surprise that these things have had a tendency to crap out on us. It’s something Microsoft has addressed with the new, cooler chips that will be manufactured in the fall. But that doesn’t save those of us who have had a 360 crap out on us (Paco and myself have both experienced this). We have to live with the memory of our fallen console for all eternity.

What if you wanted your Xbox remembered for all time? Now, you can make sure people never forget your loss. I present to you, the Dead Xbox Memorial. If your 360 has died, enshrine it forever at this memorial, and make sure that people never forget.

You know, every week something happens that keeps warranting this segment. In all honesty, I never intended for “t3h w31rd” to be a weekly segment here at X360R. But people continue to do what is, for lack of better wordage, stupid shit. So, it is with this in mind that I welcome you to this week’s round-up of all things odd, here in teh w31rd.

This was a hell of a week. It started off with Sony’s little goat thing, and ended with assault due to WoW harassment. In between, David Jaffe passes a kidney stone, Visa lets you put WoW in your pocket, and we have a few videos that you will absolutely love. And in the non-gaming w31rd… well, it’s something else entirely.

So, without further delay or adieu, and as NSFW as you can get, I present to you… t3h w31rd!

People, this is a very special edition of t3h w31rd for you all this week. You see, there wasn’t too much “weird” stuff in the world of gaming this week, so rather than just skipping the segment I’ve decided to highlight some of the more interesting things I’ve found in my travels to find for you the truly stupid. I guess you could call it “t3h f4sc1n4t1ng”, but come on, that’d be silly.

So without further adieu, I present to you “t3h w31rd”.

This should be entitled the “Slightly-Underwhelming Edition” because, this week, it’s not a very strong line-up for your pleasure. Regardless, there are a few things I caught this week that piqued my interest, and I will now pass them on to you all. So, without further adieu, I present to you… t3h w31rd!

t3h w31rd FTW

Now, I know there was no w31rd last week — it saddened me, because it’s easily my favorite segment on the entire site. It’s a chance for me to sit back, unwind, and just go OFF on weird and stupid shit… I should mention that, as always, that t3h w31rd always runs the risk of being NSFW. Either way, ladies and gents, I present to you… t3h w31rd…

I gots a Wii you can hold, Assholes!
Remember a while back when everyone was up in arms (rightfully so, I might add) when some second-rate radio station in Sacramento essentially killed a listener on-air? Yeah, nothing’s happening to them.

Now, I don’t have to point out the sheer amount of bullshit this is. Anyone with at least a 20% functional brain can figure out that the radio DJs in question were directly responsible for the death of the woman. I’m not saying it was intentional, but they were responsible, and anyone who listens to the episode in question will know that. Hell, when the nurse called in to warn them, the DJs mocked her. The fact that these two are going to walk is just disgusting, and I’m sure there is a special place in hell for them.

Now that I have that out of the system, let’s get into the light-hearted stuff.

This w33k’s Top Story:
Never Fuck With Lord British. Ever.
Ok, so about a month ago a bunch of college kids broke onto some property in Texas. While on the property, the college kids proceeded to help themselves to some rather expensive alcoholic beverages, including high-priced wines, champagnes, and my personal poison, Scotch.

One problem: While they were partying, the nitwits forgot their digital camera. What’s even worse is that they had images on said camera of them breaking onto the property. But… who’s property did they break onto? Why, none other than Richard Garriott’s. Strangely, this is nothing new to Lord British — he’s had people break onto his rather elaborate estate before. I mean, it’s built like a castle for Christ sake — I’d be hard-pressed to not try to get in there.

The moral of this story: Don’t fuck with Lord British. You will never win.

t3h w31rd FTW

Ok, first thing first: There was no w31rd last week, and for that I do apologize — I had obligations that I had to fulfill. Namely, to my country. That being said, here is two weeks worth of the weirdest, wildest, and just plain dumbest stuff from the gaming world. I bring you “t3h w31rd.”

As always, t3h w31rd is inherently NSFW, so if you’re a young’n, read with your parents.
