Jeff Bell Outed by Internet Matlockery

by

derrrrIn what is like the start of a scene from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, message board users do as they do, and critic everything under the sun, including corporate vice president of Global Marketing for the Interactive Entertainment Business (whew, gimmie a sec to catch my breath), Jeff Bell. One user specifically attacked Bell’s performance (or lack thereof) at the recent E3 conference, and let his fellow NeoGAF forum users know of his distaste. Jeff, unknown to other users at that moment, went ahead and sent a PM (personal message) to that forum user, with the message, “And your contribution to society is…what?”

Well, this is where the Matlockery starts, another forum user mentioned Bell’s Gamertag “BigDaddy801″ that he had said in a interview here (link), which of course matched nicely with the username Bell had picked out for himsef on the forums, “Bell801.” Another find was the 801 went along with another interview on Xbox.com where Bell stated, “I was a big Roxy Music fan in college, and Brian Eno left and started a band called 801. I was really into art rock/progressive rock, and 801 has been my favorite number ever since.” At the moment, 1up is waiting a comment from Microsoft on the issue.

As it stands now though, I have to side with Bell for defending himself, however, he did it in a really non thinking man’s way. Not that there should be thought with all insults, but c’mon.. “and your contribution to society” .. not even that insulting imo. For now, I await any acknoledgement from the situation from Microsoft’s side, which I don’t think might happen.
