Molyneux: “most RPGs are shit!”
Molyneux seems to be up to his old, overly-ambitious shenanigans again.
In an interview with Kikizo, Lionhead Studios’ Peter Molyneux had some strong words regarding the current state of Role-Playing Games. When Kikizo asked Molyneux about the combat system in Fable 2, Molyneux stated that he wanted the Fable 2 combat system to measure up to any fighting game.
Stupidly, the ambition on this thing is I want you to measure this against any fighting game. It’s amazing for a role playing game, because most role playing games are shit! Oblivion was a great game, but the combat was rubbish; we all talked about it being rubbish. So imagine you had a great role-playing game and really, really good combat system.
Molyneux went on to explain that Fable 2 will have one-button combat, and that he will “try and make it not suck”. Good luck there, Peter.
One of the more interesting things that Molyneux revealed regarding Fable 2 involved unlocking more of the game’s soundtrack as you unlock more abilities.
