The Darkness - Lag Patch Coming - Darkness Powers are Not

by PacoDG

Death is a lie we shall conquer Jackie

If you have been playing The Darkness as much as myself, you’d know this game kicks quite the ass of many other games currently out. Though I felt the strong point of this game is the single player campaign, it goes without saying that it still is a FPS, and therefore has some sort of multiplayer in it (Bioshock is the exception to this rule). Well The Darkness comes through with a kick ass set of multiplayer matches, you have your death matches and capture the flags… but where it shines is the darklings, in fact, if you check this video (link), you can see some of them in action during multiplayer doing a nice jump at the screen.

Where the game doesn’t shine is in the speed department. Once in every hundred games, it will run smooth, the rest are so choppy and brings a tear to my eyes that one thing can bring a game down so much. Well, users on forums dedicated to The Darkness have spoken, and “The Brotherhood of The Darkness” has listened and responded to this, as well as requests to have The Darkness powers in multiplayer. To that second part, request denied, no Darkness powers, they claim it would make the games unbalanced, and they are completely right. Now about the lag..

“Right now, it seems that the main cause of the lag is the bandwidth of those hosting multiplayer games. We didn’t get any lag problems during our testing because we have pretty good bandwidth speeds. We are working on a patch that will hopefully solve this problem. We aim to release the patch sometime next month for the 360.”

To possibly help situations before the patch comes, they say one thing you can do is check your bandwidth speed, and adjust your games accordingly (ie, below 1.5 megabits upstream, host only up to 3 players). If you don’t know your upstream, click here to check it (Note: Don’t always trust your internet provider’s information on how much you are supposed to get with your DSL/Cable, check online to make sure you have the most accurate info on your speed).
